Gender bias and stereotyping has for many years been the detrimental factor to women’s progress in emergency services. In a rapidly transforming work environment leaders need to not only adapt to change but create opportunities for betterment from their continuously diversifying workforce. Too long have organizations viewed women as homogenous group with identical challenges and compulsions rather than embracing and capitalizing on diversity. At our inaugural Women in Emergency Services Conference a multitude of inventive working strategies and development tools will be explored and discussed to encourage women working and willing to join the sector. Research has shown that incorporating gender consideration into emergency management has resulted in more resilient communities through more effective emergency planning and response. Embracing and harnessing the strengths that diversity and inclusion provide is fundamental to transitioning our emergency services into the future. Our inaugural Women Emergency Services Conference aims to encourage and empower more women into leadership positions in emergency management. It will delve into ongoing initiatives at international and local levels to promote women in emergency services. This conference is for you if, you are determined to learn more about the critical role of women in emergency services and, are interested in hearing from successful female leaders and role models within the sector and learn about financial health and wellbeing, mental and physical health, stress, fatigue and laws and policies on harassment at work amongst others and would like to network and meet new people.
